Heavy Vehicle Wheel Monitoring

Heavy Vehicle Towing Safety Made Simple

Towing heavy vehicles or big trailers demands a different level of preparation and trust. Whether it’s a commercial rig, a large equipment float, or an oversized caravan, you rely on every component working flawlessly mile after mile. Even small mechanical failures can turn into major operational delays or safety hazards when you’re moving heavy.

From mine sites to cross-country hauls, protecting your investment – and your reputation – starts with knowing your trailer and tow vehicle are up to the challenge before you hit the highway.

Heavy vehicle towing hazards to consider

Excessive Load Stress

Extreme weights put continuous strain on axles, bearings, and tyres. Even minor overloading can cause rapid component failure and compromise control.

Heat Build-Up & Brake Wear

Heavy braking and long descents can cause bearings and brakes to overheat. This reduces braking performance and increases the risk of catastrophic failures on steep grades.

Tyre Blowouts

Under high load, tyre pressure fluctuations and heat can quickly lead to blowouts. At highway speeds, this can result in loss of control, cargo damage, and serious accidents.

Bearing Failure & Wheel Loss

Overheating bearings can seize without warning, causing wheel detachment at highway speeds. This is the leading cause of wheel loss on heavy vehicles and a critical reason for real-time heavy vehicle wheel monitoring.

Wear Across Multiple Axles

Multi-axle trailers have dozens of bearings, any one of which can fail independently. Without continuous heavy vehicle wheel monitoring, a failing inner bearing can go unnoticed until it causes a breakdown – or worse.

Built for Heavy Haulers

Whether you’re hauling expensive machinery, stacked freight, or agricultural equipment, every minute counts. A failed bearing or sudden tyre blowout on a multi-tonne load isn’t just inconvenient – it’s dangerous and expensive.

Wheel Sensei gives professional drivers and fleet managers a proactive safety net, helping to avoid unexpected delays and protect valuable cargo. From mine pit to depot or city to outback, arrive safely, stay on schedule, and protect your most important assets: your trucks, your cargo, and your people.

TOW-HOW

Yes. The Wheel Sensei app by Smarter Towing supports a customisable amount of sensors. For fleets with multiple tow vehicles, each vehicle gets its own Console and pairs with the Smarter Towing app. Our roadmap will allow heavy vehicle wheel monitoring across your full fleet with API integration.
Absolutely. Wheel Sensei sensors are IP67/68 rated for dust, water, and extreme conditions – making them ideal for heavy vehicle towing safety on mining haul roads, remote freight corridors, and heavy haulage operations. The system works offline via Bluetooth with no cellular dependency, so heavy vehicle wheel monitoring continues even in areas with no mobile coverage. Sensors are motion-activated and battery-powered, requiring no wiring or external power.

We are working on providing secure APIs for Wheel Sensei data related to environmental conditions on your towing fleet. Please contact us at info@smartertowing.com for any specific enquiries.

Reporting historical data will be available through APIs or via the forth coming customer portal.

Our team is available to help with any questions via email. For more tailored support please contact us at info@smartertowing.com

Pressure monitoring is now available through the Smarter Towing app. IoT and fleet tracking is being trialed.
