Towing a Jetski

Hit the Water with Confidence

Towing your jetski should be as carefree as the ride itself – but saltwater exposure, heavy gear, and unpredictable roads can quickly turn excitement into hassle. From corroded wheel bearings to shifting loads, your trailer faces tough challenges before you even launch. By preparing properly and utilising a reliable jetski trailer bearing monitor, you can keep your key components in check. This allows you to focus on smooth launching and safe returns – every time you head to the water.

Jetski towing hazards to consider

Bearing Washout

Hot hubs plunged into cold water can suck water into your bearings almost instantly, leading to overheating and eventual failure.

Weight Distribution

Improperly balanced jetskis or gear can create dangerous sway and instability, making towing more difficult and increasing accident risk.

Tyre Pressure & Wear

Under- or over-inflated tyres struggle under heavy marine loads, reducing control and increasing the chance of blowouts – especially on long coastal trips.

Safe on the Road now Ready for the Ramp

Your jetski trailer faces some of the toughest conditions of any trailer. Repeated dips at salty boat ramps, long drives after weeks of sitting still, and hidden corrosion all put your bearings and components at risk. Hot hubs going straight into cold water can draw water into your bearings in seconds—a recipe for a ruined day on the water. By installing a dedicated jetski trailer bearing monitor, you can detect these heat spikes and saltwater’s relentless corrosion before even “sealed” bearings fail.

Peace of mind means knowing your trailer is ready before you hit the road, so your jetski adventure doesn’t end in smoke on the side of the highway.

TOW-HOW

Jetski towing tips

Yes, check your lights and tyres — but also inspect your hubs for excessive heat or play, verify winch straps and safety chains, and confirm tie-downs. A TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring System) adds another layer of confidence, especially on long coastal drives.

After a long drive, your hubs can be hot. Plunging them into cold water too quickly can create a vacuum effect that draws water into the bearings (aka bearing washout). Allowing a short cooling period before backing into the ramp helps prevent this.

Marine-specific grease resists water washout better than standard automotive grease and helps protect bearings from corrosion. Replace old or contaminated grease regularly, especially after saltwater exposure.

Jetski towing FAQs

Absolutely. By catching rising temperatures and pressure issues early, you can address small problems before they turn into catastrophic failures, saving your trip (and avoiding costly recovery fees).

Ensure your jetski is centred on the trailer. Utilise high-quality, purpose-designed straps or ratchet tie-downs for securing it. As a general rule, position two straps at the stern (rear) and one at the bow (front). Prior to commencing any journey, always verify that all straps are tight and the jetski is completely immobile on the trailer. This will prevent movement and ensure safe transit.

After each saltwater outing, thoroughly rinse your trailer, including the frame, axles, and wheels, with fresh water. Applying a protective spray or marine-grade lubricant can also help prevent corrosion.
